I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.
3 John 4
Sometimes when I have the opportunity to speak with Brother Joseph in India, I am just so overwhelmed by the goodness and faithfulness of God.
It has been almost 12 years since that first child opened a Christmas a shoebox from the Poindexter Family in Weed, CA. Since that time, over 100 children have received care and education through Good Samaritan’s Home Ministries. Some spend only a brief time with the ministry, and others calling GSH their home for many years.
The GSH children continue to grow and learn in their knowledge of Jesus Christ as well as in their academic studies. Since the first GSH home first opened in its rented building Jan 31, 2004, several students have now graduated 10th grade. Eight of these students are continuing their education at the university level.
He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap; he seats them with princes and has them inherit a throne of honor. “For the foundations of the earth are the Lord’s; on them he has set the world. 1 Samuel 2:8
I’d love to share with you a few stories of these hardworking graduates. Please keep them in your prayers.
Padma G, Naveen and Sravani graduated 10th grade last year and are in their first year (of 2 years)of intermediate school (junior college).
Padma Priya is in her 2nd year of intermediate school
John is in his first year of university pursuing a Bachelor of Arts
Prasad is in his 2nd year of university pursuing engineering, having received a full scholarship to a prestigious school
Rani and Satya are in their 3rd year of nursing school and are continuing to be in the church choir and teach Sunday School.
Each of these students are were part of the original group of kids who joined GSH soon after it opened. They have been supported by sponsors these many years, and are nearly ready to enter the adult world as skilled, educated, God-dependent people.
Having received their primary education in Telegu, the language of the region. the adjustment to receiving all instruction in English has been huge.
They are working hard though! How exciting that the new GSH Ministries school teaches the students in English from the start, so that the younger children will not have to make this transition to English higher education!
GSH students who continue their education past 10th grade are supported by scholarships. Tuition for intermediate school is $250.00 per student per year and for university is $500.00 per student per year—the low cost of tuition is due to their high scores which has decreased the amount of tuition. There are also room and board costs in addition to tuition.
We are so proud of our GSH students having come from such poverty and destitution to achieve these successes—praise the LORD!
